"Baling wire" is a term of art for jury-rigged fixes.  "Haywire" is
another word for baling wire, but with difference connotations..

All the balers we had used "binder twine".  Baling wire seems like a bad 
idea.  It seems easy to be leave wire in feed or bedding.  Ingesting wire 
is more likely to kill a cow than ingesting twine.  "Hardware disease" is 
what we called it when cows ingested stuff like that.

A binder is a different farm implement from a baler.  It was replaced
by the combine harvester.  It used binder twine to bind sheaves, not
bales.
