Turns out we weren't alone:

the fix is also in the 4.18.14(?) kernel.

Thanks to the boot tuneup it is also getting through the tests quicker
(12 vs 17hrs).  The results are unfortunately still littered with
timeouts so a newer machine is still a desirable :-) (I'm going to try
reducing the number of parallel reboots and parallel tests to see if
that helps)

Now if only we could shave off that other 7s setting up the network.
