I only see pluto calls in IKEv2, not IKEv1. So that makes me believe
that yes it is still needed.

orient(c) is called at the end of add_connection() and neither functions
call resolve_defaultroute_one(). So it wouldn't orient properly without
it? That can be changed but that's more then just removing a call from
addconn.
