    testing: use (new) ping-once.sh --down to confirm clear text is blocked
    
    Only waits a second for something that should really never happen
    (instead of waiting five seconds).
    
    Unlike send-one-ping.sh, ping-once.sh --up|down tunes the timeout
    and exit code based on what is expected.
