    testing: annotate when NIC is missing reference output
    
    Previously it was being silently ignored.
    
    Since missing reference output is ignored, this doesn't
    affect the results (there is, however, a good argument that
    this should be treated as UNRESOLVED; and sanitizers be used
    to delete uninteresting output).
