    Revert "tweak to sscanf to suppress data argument not used by format string"
    The original code was correct.  The fix makes the output worse.
    It is possible to add code to get the same output without a warning.
    (The changes were to snpring calls, not sscanf calls.)
    This reverts commit 62da4ddf214fb35b926a93c0d6257c25848ff6c2.
