    ttorange:
    - remove tests for string lengths (these will be caught due to syntax errors)
    - remove test for NULL src (will be caught by segfault)
      (note: this is a program error, not a user error)
    - remove code for unsupported address families
    - improve error messages
    Regression tests may need revision.
